CARBON OFFSETTING
The Tree Foundation has always had within
its remit, a requirement to ensure alll its
projects are in balance with the natural
environment. In 2006 the charity realised
that it had not put as much effort into this
area as it had hoped to. Being focused in
the area of education & rural development,
it has therefore decided to partner with a
number of specialist environmental
protection organisations to ensure that its
environmental contribution requirements are
met. This involves projects such as
protecting threatened rainforest regions
from deforestation, to the use of energy
saving techniques by local people (which
also helps reduce their living costs and
increases their standards of living). At
this point verified, measured Carbon
Offsetting programmes are available for
donors to allocate funds to. Global warming
is a critical issue facing all of humanity,
one so brilliantly presented by former US
Vice President Al Gore in "An Inconvenient
Truth". The Tree Foundation is proud of the
important contribution it can make. |
